Extreme Thermal Sensitivity for Wildlife Observation
Designed for serious wildlife watchers, the Lumion XL50 is built around a highly sensitive 1024×768, 12 µm, <20 mK sNETD European-made Lynred HD thermal sensor.
This advanced sensor delivers exceptionally sharp thermal images and fine detail across the entire 2.5–20x magnification range — ideal for identifying animals at long distances, tracking movement in woodland, or scanning open fields at night.
Paired with a fast 50mm f/1.0 germanium lens, the large-format HD sensor provides outstanding detection performance. Even the faintest heat signature from animals such as foxes, deer, badgers, or birds of prey can be detected at ranges of up to 2,300 metres. The system maintains clarity in nearly all weather conditions, including heavy rain, dense fog, snow, and high humidity — perfect for unpredictable UK countryside environments.
Advanced Image Boost Technology
Pulsar’s Image Boost processing delivers enhanced detail, clarity, and contrast using powerful proprietary algorithms. These improvements ensure richly layered thermal scenes and improved recognition of low-contrast wildlife against natural backgrounds such as grassland, woodland edges, wetlands, and open water.
The system sharpens details at a wide range of distances, helping you spot small mammals, identify species, and follow fast-moving wildlife with ease. For poor visibility or worsening weather, the user can manually increase sensor sensitivity to boost detection performance. A smoothing filter and extensive brightness/contrast controls also help reduce eye fatigue during long observation sessions.
Designed Around the Needs of Wildlife Watchers
The Lumion XL50 is built for comfortable, prolonged field use. Its ergonomic layout includes:
- Easy-reach top-mounted control buttons
- A rotatable hand strap for both left- and right-handed users
- Traditional-style focusing and magnification rings for intuitive, camera-lens-like operation
- These features allow quick focusing on moving wildlife and smooth magnification adjustments with minimal effort, even while wearing gloves.
Customisable User Experience
Hunters, nature watchers, and search-and-rescue operators can tailor the XL50’s interface to their workflow. Menu items and button functions can be reordered for rapid access to frequently used features — ideal when tracking animals at night or responding to fast-changing field conditions.
Eight Wildlife-Optimised Colour Palettes
With eight thermal colour palettes, users can choose the most effective mode for each environment:
- White Hot, Black Hot, Red Hot: Best for fast detection of animals
- Rainbow, Ultramarine: Enhance recognition and identification of species
- Red Monochrome, Sepia, Violet: Reduce eye fatigue for extended night-time viewing
This flexibility ensures excellent performance whether scanning farmland, dense woodland, scrubland, or wide open moorland.
Built for Performance and Durability
The Lumion XL50’s rugged rubber-armoured composite housing withstands harsh field conditions and provides a secure, non-slip grip in both wet and dry environments. Its IPX7 waterproof rating means it remains fully functional even after being submerged in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes.
The optics, electronics, and battery system operate reliably in temperatures from –25°C to +40°C, ensuring dependable performance throughout all seasons — from winter tracking to summer dusk observations.
